Hager Design International (HDI) is the interior Designer of Record for this 12-story boutique hotel, the second of the Virgin Hotel portfolio. The vibe at the Virgin Hotel San Francisco has been described by the Creative Director as "merging an eclectic architectural and decorative a mix between San Francisco’s Victorian-era past, the city’s 1960s rock ’n’ roll appropriation of Victorian styling, and a 19th-century British feel". A tall glass partition separates the Shag Room from the Commons Club - a flagship restaurant, bar and lounge designed to feel like a modern social club.

The Commons Club design aesthetic features modernized Victorian-era architectural elements exhibited in the bar's installation wall, the furniture and millwork, chandeliers, and floor-to-ceiling windows draped in rich velvet curtains. Vachetta leather bar stools are plushy and comfortable for long-term lounging. A row of cafe style bench seating by the window allows for intimate conversations. The richly textured ceiling tiles and eye-catching bookshelf nooks feature culinary and literary inspiration.
