San Francisco, CA, USA

As the second hotel location in the North American market, the Virgin Hotel San Fransisco will add to the numerous cultural attractions in the area. The brand knows how to party and selected a city who knows a thing or two about night life. The vibe has been described as "a mix between San Francisco’s Victorian-era past, the city’s 1960s rock ’n’ roll appropriation of Victorian styling, and a 19th-century British feel".

Each of the hotel’s 192 “chambers” were thoughtfully laid out and feature accents in the brands signature red and  a two-room layout: the entry hallway, closets and bathroom are grouped into a dressing room area, while the bedroom and sitting area are grouped into a sleeping and hangout lounge. The lounge-style chaise bed includes some retro-inspired styling details, with nightstands and a tiny nook seat in the corner by the door; this multipurpose work area is an efficient and stylish use of space.

A tall glass partition separates the Shag Room from the Commons Club, a mixed-use dine/drink/workspace with stunning high ceilings and a luxe, safari lodge-inspired vibe. The Commons Club is a gorgeous, airy space with floor-to-ceiling high windows, rich curtains sectioning off various parts of the dining room, a generous bar and eye-catching chandeliers. Virgin Hotels hopes to turn this spot into a central gathering spot, not just for visiting patrons but for locals passing through or working in the area. For those who enjoy working from hotel bars, a thoughtful row of coat hooks and both power and USB outlets at each seat makes it easy to stay plugged in. Vachetta leather bar stools are plushy and comfortable for long-term sitting. A row of cafe-style seating by the window allowed for intimate conversations, especially paired with a premium-quality audio system specially designed to facilitate acoustics that will enhance, not overpower the space. Bold red speakers give nod to the hotel’s roots from the iconic Virgin Records brand. The decor is just as much of a treat as the food, with richly textured ceiling tiles and eye-catching bookshelf nooks featuring culinary and literary inspiration.

This new build hotel exemplifies the Brand's vision and identity with its fully customized, eclectic, fun, sexy and smart design style. Unexpected and memorable experiences will delight the discerning guest. HDI is the designer of record for this project.
